Ed & I Body is the summer range of my (skin) dreams

. Sunday 29 September 2019 .

It's made with whiskey. It smells like chocolate. It made me crave for summer. It is solely responsible for the increase of chocolate cocktail I seem to have been consuming a lot lately. I'm talking about the Ed & I Body range, of course!

I haven't been this excited about a body care release in ages. There's something about it's chic packaging, the simple yet creative way each product is named so you always know where you stand (and when to use them), and the fact that it's proudly New Zealand owned and New Zealand made (hello, Thomson whiskey!) that really does it for me. So when it finally arrived, I couldn't wait to get home and take a shower so I can trial it out!

In hindsight it probably wasn't the best idea to use this before a landlord inspection. I've tried chocolate/coffee scrubs before. I knew that those scrubs, while amazing and smell absolutely decadent, are notorious for staining your shower with its remnants. And there I was, having just spent an entire day scrubbing and cleaning until my shower tiles were pristine. But I didn't care, consequences be damned. I was excited to give this a try and no landlord inspection was going to stop me!

I started with the - you guessed it - Before product. It's a body scrub that's 99% natural with a shot of whiskey. The first thing I noticed was the smell - it truly was so decadent and delicious. The next thing I noticed was that it was definitely darker than any scrubs I've ever used. If you look closely at the photo of the bottle, you'll notice a bit of it peaking out from the pump. The texture kind of feels like chocolate mousse or a whipped tanning product. Quite light! I am used to scrubs that are quite grainy and this didn't feel like that at all so I was a bit nervous. Was it going to do the job? Or am I just sabotaging my new clean showers for nothing? The texture definitely took a bit of getting used too but to be honest I think it's better than grainy scrubs. It's a lot less abrasive without sacrificing the scrubbing properties. My handy tip? Use it as a dry scrub rather than a wet one. Trust me!

Now I'm a huge fan of layering scent so I'm happy to report that the chocolate whiskey is a consistent smell in the whole range, so the scent really lingers on your skin all day. I've caught myself getting a whiff of it several times in a day while I'm at work and the scent really is quite addictive.

Next up is the After product - a body oil this time. I'm quite fond of body oils especially immediately after a shower. I prefer it to cream based moisturisers, especially in the warmer months. I was surprised at how dense and heavy this oil was. The first time I used it I think my body was definitely too dry for it to spread as smoothly as it could so I tried it with damp skin and WOW. It worked like a treat and if I had to choose a favourite out of the whole range, it would be this. I'm a convert and I will be repurchasing for a long time. I think I'll try it again on drier skin and give it a second chance.

The Always product is also good too. Again the texture feels like a whipped lotion, but it's dense like the oil too. I keep this one near my bedside table because I love giving my skin a bit of a top moisturiser top up before bed. I love love love the fact that this never feels sticky or tacky and it absorbs pretty quickly too.

I didn't realise whiskey as an ingredient in skin care has some pretty good benefits like how it keeps acne/pimple at bay. And as someone who has extremely oily skin that's prone to breakouts, bacne and pimples in the body are something I, sadly, am familiar with. I've been using this for three weeks now and so far, so good. No major breakouts yet. Not even a single pimple!

All in all, Ed & I Body is an impressive range of products in today's extremely competitive self-care/skin care/body care landscape. But if you're looking to treat yourself to something a little more special without breaking the bank, then this is a top shelf choice for sure. Buy it individually or as a set, it's one of the best body care release I've seen to date.

Thanks Public Library Showroom for this gorgeous gift. It's already on my list to purchase before I even run out because I've now decided I cannot live without it.
