Pure Magic

. Friday 11 November 2016 .
The day the world ended not a cloud was in sight, the skies were the bluest of blue, and the sun shone the brightest it has been in a while. It was a beautiful day.

It was unlike anything we could ever imagine. The realization that sometimes even our worst nightmares come true is sobering. But this wasn’t quite how I pictured it to be. In my head when I thought about the world ending, I saw a grim, dystopian scenario. The kind of apocalypse that movies depict. What I didn’t see was a day like this – bright, beautiful. The kind of day that makes one hopeful.

The day the world ended my fears felt validated. That I do not matter because I wasn’t born a certain way. My skin is the wrong color, I don’t have a dick, and everything else about my existence isn’t enough to be treated like a person.

The day the world ended I thought about the people that make up my community. I thought about celebrating pride, Ramadan, the legalization of gay marriage, the freedom and right to wear a hijab in public and to live without fear of being yourself. I thought about the richness that diversity adds to a community and wanted to cry.

So a lot can happen in a year.

The world as you know it can be completely turned around.

Twenty Four

This is basically a love letter to the new Lunar Pant from Maaike so if you're into gals professing their love for their new pants then hello you have come to the right place.

1. Sometimes life is about finding yourself in your friend's living room at 8:30 on a Monday night, doing some copywriting while listening to her and her husband have the most random talks. The kind that only happens between two people who have been in love for a long time. Lighthearted banter, domestic admin, and glances exchanged between them as they have their own secret conversation going on somewhere. Sometimes life is also about watching lip sync battle while said friend demonstrates the yoga poses she's learnt in her maternity class while her husband looks lovingly on.

Ten Things

. Saturday 6 August 2016 .
It's 12:43 am and my mind is buzzing with ideas while extreme journal-ing and blocking out dates in my diary. August is a manic month with Spark Festival, PechaKucha, Press Club, New Zealand Fashion Week, a film, blog rebrand and refresh, novel writing, and actual full-time job that's also at its busiest time. It's been a while since I've felt this way.

Boy, have I got so much to tell you about the last 6 months and how it felt like my world as I knew it completely collapsed. The end of things you never thought would end. At least not this quick. The friends who moved away. Mourning the loss of a project you poured your heart and soul to. These are just some of the things that the first half of the year had blessed me with. It's all gold, baby. Things have a funny way of working out.

Today I got to cuddle a baby, meet about a film project I'm so excited to be part of, and spent the evening doing more work on the fashion front. There comes a moment in your life where you realise why you are alive. I think this might be it.

P.S. sorry for the lack of posts and this crappy layout that's not mobile responsive (2016 called... it said I need to keep up with the times), but my blog is getting a refresh. There's a lot going on this month but we are chipping away at it quietly in the background. I'll be posting on my Instagram predominantly while this update happens.

This might be it

. Monday 6 June 2016 .
It's no secret that I lovethetron. I can honestly say it's one of the biggest loves of my life. You know what else is on that list? Fashion. So when these two loves collide - and for a good cause too - I get so damn excited about it. Case in point?

Fashion For a Cure  is just one of the many brilliant ways Breast Cancer Cure charity fund their research into finding a cure for cancer. They are returning to Hamilton on Thursday, 9th of June, at The Atrium at Wintec (what is more Hamilton than The Atrium?! Beautiful venue, home to many unforgettable evenings, and also conveniently located in town) and it's shaping up to be one for the books!

What better way to spend Friday Eve (yes, this is a thing) than in a room celebrating all things fashion with some of New Zealand's top fashion designers like RUBY, Liam, Andrea Moore, Moochi, Trelise Cooper, Taylor, Working Style, and Story (SO MUCH YESSSS FOR THIS LINE-UP) showcasing their collections.

Tickets are $75 per person and that includes wine, canapes, and a goody bag.

I recruited my Instagram husband slash fabulous friend slash gifted photographer Dilwin to attend the event with me so I'll be giving you the lowdown on the night over on the blog. But wait there's mooooooreeee... I am also going to be live snapchatting the event so follow me on Snapchat (jess-molina).

But you know what's better than seeing it through your cellphone screens/social media?

Be there. Be present. Right in the moment as it unfolds. I'll be seeing you X

Here's a good old fashioned blog post chronicling exactly what I did today! Yay! Not that I'm assuming you care about every intricate detail of my life. I just miss having a space for my thoughts and my adventures when you can just be. Bringing back the good ol' blog post on blogspot with shit quality photos and shit quality gifs. Aesthetics be damned.

I was happily minding my own business being lazy in bed when Joe facetimed me. He looked exactly like I did - still in pjs and in bed - at 12:30.

"Get off your bum and have coffee with me," he said.

"I have $10 until payday."

"I'm pretty sure I owe you a coffee. Get dressed. I'll pick you up in 15 minutes."

I mean who was I to turn down free coffee, amirite?

We bumped into Dilwin and sat outside. I had my coffee and cheesecake ("Order anything you want as long as it's 5 cents" - Joe). We took photos, we talked about plans, we sang songs, we drank water, and we danced along Victoria St in broad daylight. As far as Sundays go, this was worth getting out of my bed and putting on a bra for.

As far as Sundays go

. Monday 30 May 2016 .

wearing cute fringe skirts on a Monday and drinking the yummiest orange juice I've recently discovered from the cafe at work

that fire in my belly growing stronger by the minute, feeling that tiny spark I carry being fanned into something bigger again (read: not the shits)

about bouncing back and feeling ready to create again, but more importantly feeling ready to talk about it now

being asked to be interviewed by your friend's 13 year old daughter as a 'person she's inspired by' for a school assignment

finding inspiration in the unlikeliest places (this weekend it was seeing Zootopia. Blown away by their bravery for introducing themes like racism and settling for less than what you're capable of in a kids movie)

realising new dreams and setting bigger goals. You know it's the right one when you get that inexplicable sense of clarity and joy just thinking about it

the unwavering belief that anything is truly possible in this world, and being grateful to watch this all unfold

Life lately is...

Oh heyyyyyyyy blog!

I can't believe I haven't updated this blog this year! Some blogger, huh? I do have good reasons, though. There's lots of changes in the air. Things that I'm sure I'll post about soon (like my amazing hotel holiday for new year's and my debut back into acting) when I can. But right now I want to talk about the weekend.

Saturday, in particular.

Saturday funderday? Nope, doesn't sound as good as sunday funday. It was a wonderful start to the weekend nonetheless. I went to the opening of Harper Inc where I was casually just posing while browsing and a camera just happened to have captured the moment (Lol who am I kidding? Thanks Naomi for being a good sport and taking the photo). But seriously, what a beautiful store! And we haven't even talked about the clothes yet. THE CLOTHES. Oh my. It took every ounce of willpower for me not to shop up a storm. I don't want to spoil anything as I'll be doing a separate blog entry soon but if there's anything you should do ASAP, it's visiting the store for some treats. Congrats Courtney and family on your new venture. It's always so exciting to see beautiful boutiques opening in our little city and if you don't believe me yet, see it for yourself - Shop 2, 19 Worley Place.

In keeping with the 'new' theme the day seemed to have, I checked out the newly opened Hayes Common for some light late lunch with Naomi. The place still had the nice beautiful windows that Hydro had, yummy food, and beautiful 70's inspired decor. The only thing I did not like is the flowers... I have a hole phobia and they had those flowers (even as I type this I'm getting the hibbie jibbies) EVERYWHERE. I was anxious the whole time and did not enjoy sitting there with it around me :(

Then I went to the museum because I wanted to check out the Art & Architecture exhibition. I ended up going to the other exhibitions and wandering around for ages, feeling really inspired and having the sudden urge to write, write, write.

As I was walking to catch a late afternoon movie, I realised that I could do with a little bit of snack so off to Madam Woo I went. Guys. The pulled sticky pork Hawker Roll is the bomb.com. I have never tasted anything so flavourful in a long time. I swear I took my first bite and basically wanted to cry. It was so beautiful and I feel like I'm going to be eating this for the rest of my life.

All in all it was a pretty fantastic day and I finished it off with a trip to Farmers. It's beauty week and I may have been buying way too much goodies like this Dior maximizer glow primer that deserves a blog post in itself because it has changed me as a person. No, but really. My Instagram shows it off in full glory.
